Back at shooting...

... this time without deleting everything when getting back home!

Ok, so the last days (weeks?) were really exhausting! And despite not having done any sports for three weeks I, today, opted for some relaxing shooting in park right behind Karlsruhe Palace. Weather was terrific, maybe even too good for shooting the kind of images I originally intended.

In the end, I got home with about a dozen images — The next days will show how many of them turn out as keepers!

Just checking...

... which images were recovered successfully: Here's another one! It really is a pity: The image I took right afterwards was far better, as a couple was sitting on the left bench. Unfortunately that one didn't made it...

Cropping 4 the win...

So, this is one of my yesterday's images that didn't survive my hastiness. Some software managed to recover the erased file, but still, parts of the image were corrupted. Luckily one still can crop, even with only 8 megapixels, right?

What is the best thing to do...

... when getting home, after having spent an entire afternoon shooting beautiful flowers? Right: Delete all the images as well as those you've been taking in the past six months and that you didn't backup yet. How could that happen? Well, whenever you're unsure about what one of your self written Linux shell scripts is doing, make sure to read the *entire* script and not just every second line.

Sure, even under Linux, there is some software around allowing to recover freshly erased files. The first one I tried is called "fatback": As it, however, didn't come with a (usable) manual, I called the binary from the directory that used to contain all my images, hoping the software would be looking for deleted files in that folder. WRONG! Instead of doing so, it created some stupid log file right in that directory, and (most likely) totally wrecked some of my lost data. Aaaw, crap! Still, I didn't want to give up and kept on looking for another software. A tool called "photorec" was the next I tried: This one did a pretty good job, as it managed to recover almost every file, including some those that I already deleted right during the shooting, because of bad composition, blown highlights and so on... Unfortunately, when browsing the recovered files afterwards using UFraw, most of them turned out to be corrupted, probably because of that #*$&% "fatback" software!

So, instead of giving you colourful flowers tonight, this is all I have...

Jummy...

That's what I think when looking at today's image! Its some sort of experiment, as this is not what I usually shoot. I spent quite some time thinking about what focal length to use for this and how to get lighting halfway acceptable (in the end, of course, I spent even more time correcting the lighting in Gimp...). Well, the image is not only far from perfect, but its also far from what I imagined and wanted to get. Still, I somehow like it, so here you go...
