Out of the Haze
This is one of the larger islands (can't remember the exact name) you see when travelling with the Blue Star Ferry from Athens to Santorini. Seeing this combination of water, clouds, haze and the island somehow reminded me of that one scene from movie "1492" when, after weeks of sailing across the sea, land suddenly pops out of nowhere.
I loved this shot from the moment I took it, since I was sure of its great potential that only would show up during post-processing. Speaking of the latter, I needed a handful of attempts for, eventually, finding a result I would be happy with. While, at the beginning, I spent a couple of hours trying to recover more contrast from the image's lower part, the idea of what to actually do with this picture became much clearer when, in contrary, hiding the lower part! I applied a gradual exposure correction, adding around 2 stops to the bottom of the image while taking about 1 stop from the center. There's not much more done, except moving that one cloud a little more to the image's center.
